PURPOSE       (What will the activity accomplish?)

Students will compare and contrast pictures of winter celebrations among their own and other cultures.

DESCRIPTION      (A summary of what the students will do.)

The students will discuss their familyÕs winter celebrations and use a teacher-prepared Venn diagram to compare and contrast their celebrations with winter celebrations in other cultures.

PREPARATION     (What the teacher needs to do to prepare for the lesson)

The teacher will have already taught lessons about the customs of winter celebrations in many different cultures.

Using Kidspiration, the teacher will prepare a Venn diagram with one side labeled ÒMy CultureÓ and one side labeled ÒOther Cultures.Ó

The teacher will place the prepared Venn diagram template on the desktop of each student computer in the computer lab.

The teacher will bring in sample items students have made in class to review the symbols of winter celebrations. (example:  pictures of Menorahs, poinsettias, and St. LuciaÕs lights.)

 REFLECTIVE COMMENTS

(Have you taught this learning activity before?  No.  What are the great

ah haÕs/experiences you had?)

My students did a really great job giving reasons for where we should place each symbol.  They remembered from our lessons the different symbols and their uses. Their final product showed how well they followed along for this lesson.
