/Capshaw Connection Newsletter - September 2009 It's Cougar Run Time in Tennessee! If you have lived in the Cookeville community any length of time you know that fall brings Cookeville's Fall Fun Fest, football and Cougar Run. This is the one fundraiser Capshaw PTO does during the school year. Children are given the opportunity to exercise while helping raise money for the school. Families are here to cheer on their little runner and then enjoy lunch and visiting with other Capshaw families during the day. It is a fun day for our school and allows us to provide extras for your child that otherwise we would go without. Please join us as we celebrate our children and their elementary education at Cougar Run. ATTENDANCE: Lessons are being taught in the classrooms from 8:00 - 2:50. Three morning tardies in a semester without a doctor's excuse is an unexcused absence. A student is allowed 5 absences in a semester without a doctor's excuse. Students must bring a doctor's excuse for any subsequent absences, or the absences will be unexcused. At this time Putnam County policy requires us to report these unexcused absences to the Director of School's office. LIBRARY NEWS: Library hours are 7:45 - 8:00 am each morning, and 2:50 - 3:15 pm on M, T, Th, and F. The library will be open until 4:00 pm on Wednesday. If you would like to purchase a library book in honor of your child, or in memory of someone just see Ms. Clement in the library. This method of providing library books is very important to us this year since library funds have been cut. The Book Fair is coming in October! CONGRATULATIONS CAPSHAW KIDS! Hunter Harcum, 2 first place trophies at Karate Tournament; Riley Hurst, 3rd place in horse show at the fair; Baylor Johnston, 3rd place in art and growing a pumpkin at the fair; Alex Rinks, composing and performing a violin piece this summer; Sawyer Beatty, Jackson Kelly and Ryan Remsley, winning 1st place in Atlanta on their traveling baseball team. (Please share things your child does outside school so we can feature them in upcoming Connections.) SALE: PTO has Paw Magnets ($8), Car Visor Tags ($3) and t-shirts for sale. The Capshaw T-shirts (both short sleeve and long sleeve) were so popular that we sold out on Cougar Run Day T-shirts will be re-ordered and sold again at our Open House in October. Short sleeve orange & navy shirts are $10 and long sleeve white shirts are $15. All proceeds directly benefit our school through PTO. Thanks for your support! UPCOMING EVENTS: Please see the events page on our website! JUST A REMINDER: We collect Box Tops for Education and Water Labels. These are redeemed for classroom equipment. The class that collects the most Box Tops by the end of February wins a pizza party.
