Principal's Message

the CMS yellow jacket (mascot)

Welcome to Cornerstone Middle School - the newest school in the Putnam County School District! When the new Upperman High School building was opened in January, 2003, CMS also opened as a new middle school, with 492 students in grades 5-8. As a result of the hard work and support of the PCS district administration, the excellent faculty and staff, and the Baxter community, CMS completed a major renovation of the original Baxter Seminary/Upperman High School site for our new school.

Our goal was to preserve our excellent heritage of quality education, while also creating a new school identity that will meet the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of the middle school age student. This new middle school format is organized around the components of high academic expectations for every child, a safe and nurturing learning environment, a balanced and challenging curriculum of core and enrichment classes, and unique programs for student advocacy (Advisory), enrichment (Encore classes), interdisciplinary teaming, and varied activities.
